How We Worship

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is celebrated across the Benefice as a memorial of the death and resurrection of Jesus. During a Holy Communion Service we sing hymns or songs, listen and reflect on a Bible passage, pray together and share bread and wine.  The sharing of this special meal brings to mind Jesus' final meal with his friends, during which he passed round bread and a cup of wine and said ''do this in remembrance of me”.

Refresh

Refresh is an informal, family friendly, café-style service which starts with refreshments and includes a short time of sung worship, discussion on a different topic each week and prayers. At St Nicholas’ Church, Refresh is held in the church hall and starts at 09.45am with coffee and croissants. At Christ Church it is held at the back of church and starts at 10.30am.

Together in Worship

Together in Worship is an informal service which is held monthly at St Nicholas, led by both lay and ordained members of the ministry team. The service includes the singing of hymns/worship songs, and as a church family we reflect together on the bible passage of the day.

Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer is a service that uses traditional liturgy handed down through the centuries, formally known as Matins. In our morning prayer services, we also include the singing of hymns or more modern songs, and a short reflection based on the Bible passage of the day.

Compline

Compline is a short service of night prayer. The ancient office of Night Prayer (Compline) derives its name from a Latin word meaning 'completion' (completorium). It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day.

Teatime Family Service

Our Teatime Service is for all the family. It is designed to cater for children who are Our Family Teatime service for all the family takes place on the first Sunday of the month at 4pm at St Nicholas’ Church, Winsley.  It is designed to cater for children who are primary age and below and so we seek to worship in a way that is familiar to them. This involves creativity, noise and a lot of fun! We are conscious that all children are different (as are all adults) and so there is no pressure on anyone to get more involved than they wish to be. The service is 30 minutes long and is followed by food in the church hall afterwards.
